Once taxes are out of your hair, consider addressing these six items as we head into Q2. <\/span>Here is your 2023 checklist:<\/p>\n<h3><strong>High Yield Savings Account<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">What&#8217;s the interest rate in your checking\/savings account? Unfortunately, traditional brick &amp; mortar banks typically aren&#8217;t competitive in this space.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Open up a high-yield savings account that pays <\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">4%<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">+ annual interest as of the date of this blog.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Generally, these accounts have no minimums or lock-ups and are very easy to use.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Health Savings Account (HSA)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">We can&#8217;t stress the benefits of this investment vehicle enough. Depending on your employer-provided benefits, an HSA may be reason enough for switching to a high-deductible health care plan.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Contributions are tax-deductible, earnings grow tax-deferred, and withdrawals are tax-free if used for eligible medical expenses<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Consider investing the balance of your HSA (and fund medical expenses from cash flow) to take advantage of tax-free growth!<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Fund your IRAs<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">You have until you file your 2022 taxes (no extension) to fund your 2022 IRAs (Traditional or Roth).<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Contribution limits are<\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0$6,000 (+ $1,000\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">catch-up if you are<\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> 50+)<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">SEP IRAs allow for tax filing extensions.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"ql-indent-1\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Contribution limits are dependent upon income but cannot exceed\u00a0<\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">$61,000<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Roth IRAs for Minors<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Do you own your own business? Are your kids old enough to assist?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Consider establishing a Minor Roth IRA and fund the account with their earnings.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">There are nuances to consider (i.e., reasonable tasks, wages commensurate with age); it&#8217;s worth discussing with your CPA.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Max your Roth 401(k)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Find out if your employer offers one! The maximum contribution for 2023 is <\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">$22,500<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0(<\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">+ $7,500<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0catch-up contribution if you are\u00a0<\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">50+<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Remember that shifting contributions to the Roth bucket will reduce your monthly paycheck as the funds go in <\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">after-tax<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0vs.\u00a0<\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">pre-tax<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Accreditor Investor Status<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The world of alternative investments is opening up for those meeting the definition of an Accredited Investor. However, just because you meet the criteria doesn&#8217;t mean an alternative investment is appropriate for you.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The SEC definition is <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/education\/capitalraising\/building-blocks\/accredited-investor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">here<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.
